Grades 3-5 Progression Charts

Table 1 illustrates the progression of students initially placed in English Now! at English Proficiency Levels 1* and 2*. Table 2 represents the progression of students initially placed in English Now! at English Proficiency Levels 3* and 4*. The color coding shows the three-year progression of the same group of students.

In Year 1, Grades 3-5 ELLs at Level 1 and 2 are placed in the English Now! A/B v2.0 UE (Upper Elementary) Full Program (Units 1, 2, and 3). In Year 2, ELLs now in Grade 4 progress to English Now! C4 and C5 where they learn more advanced vocabulary and grammar, experience the writing process, and read content area material. By Year 3, these same students are ready for more advanced reading and writing, and proceed to English Now! C6 and English Now! Prep Expository.

In Year 1, Grade 3 ELLs at Levels 3 and 4 are placed in English Now! A/B v2.0 UE Language-based Literacy. Those in Grade 4 are placed in English Now! C4, C5, and Writing Workshop, and in Grade 5, English Now! C6, English Now! Prep Expository (Elem), and Writing Workshop. In Years 2 and 3, they proceed as indicated on the chart, focusing on advanced writing through the expository genre, and advanced reading through informational texts.
